Program Objective:  To familiarize the participants with the complexities and difficulties involved in marine custody transfer operations, measurement and loss control from both ship and shore perspectives, and reviews the latest industry standards in these areas.  Shows participants how to best find and use the measurement data needed to determine if an oil loss has occurred, how to allocate responsibility for it and to proceed to recover and/or prevent the loss from occurring again.  Reviews various technologies, methods and techniques available to prevent and or minimize exposure to oil losses. 

 

 

INSPECTION / SURVEY OF MARINE PETROLEUM CARGOES - REVIEW & CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

VEF - Wedge - Deadweight Survey 

The two-day exam offers qualified candidates the opportunity to become certified in the area of Inspection or Survey of Marine Petroleum Cargoes.

 

THE EXAM

 

Candidates must have one year of experience as a cargo inspector or have equivalent time involved with the measurement of marine petroleum cargoes and pass a comprehensive two-part exam.  Part One consists of 400 multiple choice, true/false and fill in the blank questions.  These questions are totally based on API measurement standards and safety issues found in the International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals (ISGOTT). Part Two consists of five practical problems including – Knowledge of Applicable Standards, Finding and Allocating Losses by Voyage Analysis, Deadweight Survey, and Calculation and Application of VEF and Wedge. 

 

CERTIFICATION  

Successful candidates in the certification program will be awarded certificates in the area of "Inspection" or "Survey" of Marine Petroleum Cargoes, depending on the type of experience of the candidate.  The certificates will be issued by the International School for Inspectors of Petroleum.  

 

Program Objective:  Provides a concise and practical review of cargo and bunker inspection, measurement, loss control, operations and safety.  Also provides the opportunity for qualified individuals wishing to have their knowledge tested to become certified in the area of Inspection / Survey of Marine Petroleum Cargoes.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Managers, staff, vessel operators, agents, schedulers, charterers, attorneys, government, loss control analysts, oil accountants, terminal, vessel, field and administrative personnel and anyone else working with oil tankers or measurement and oil storage in any way wishing to enhance their knowledge in the described areas will benefit from these programs.

 

COURSE FORMAT

All courses use a combination of lectures, audio visual presentations, hands on use of equipment (where applicable), problem solving discussion and daily summary and question and answer sessions.  The Advanced Tanker Operations course includes a mock arbitration of an actual tanker operations case.  

 

MATERIALS

Participants receive original reference books,  pertinent industry publications, papers and other handouts. A course certificate is awarded to all those successfully completing the program.

 

FEES

The base fee for each combined program is US$1,335 if paid before the start of the session and US$1,440 if paid on the first day.  A special  “early fee” US$1,235 is available if payment is received at least 21 days prior to commencement of the program. Group and multiple course discounts may also be available.
